Those lights look pretty cool, but over $500 is pretty crazy...
Leeeetsss goooo
He's back! I just bought my first motorcycle. I bet you can guess what it is! Thanks for the inspiration
Congratulations! Guess it's a V-Strom, great choice! Ride safe
Been waiting for an update forever brother. Good to see you back on the channel
M1 regular one, only road, mainly twisting roads but like a daily vehicle. Excellent 👌🏼 If you don't have ego problems or don't feel insecurity because it's cheap price vs other bikes, it's s really good choice
Yes, its right, the best adventure bike, if you ar not rich man, and want to travel a lot.
You can wire in a V-strom ABS bypass to disable it. Effectively does the same thing as pulling the fuse, but it's just flipping a switch. It's a bit invasive and not for amateurs but it's a mod that can be done.
I had one, until I had an accident and almost died. My question is, WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE!
Suzuki went cheap and put 1970’s suspension on the V650, it should have received the V1000 suspension with usd forks and rear shock.
Did you use an app for trails or just went where any road took you?
how did you modify the vstrom? I'm asking because I'm planning to buy one and am also 2m tall.
A front fender mod is critical for any mud.raise it up, eliminate it, whatever. I just had a very disappointing morning because under barely muddy conditions the underside of my fender on my 2023 locked up my front tire completely. Had to walk back home to get my truck and tools and scrape the underside of my fender. Great job suzuki! And yes the factory battalax tires are useless in the dirt! Very happy with my Michelin anakee tires!
What/how did you get those additional gauges?
@0:35 the 1050 usb socket is almost a direct replacement. It only needs a different plug to fit the existing one on the bike. That's also a good place to make a Y splitter cable to cleanly connect a GPS unit. The 3A fuse can easily handle both.
Thank you. you just cemented my choice for the front...Can't afford both, but it's worth the money to buy the Light Cannon....
lol, the buggers, didnt even realise they had stolen the preload adjuster off later models, the first gen was, even tho the first gen 1000 wasnt, i did a similar swap to you but used Yacugar springs, but then i swapped the cartridge DL1000 internals onto mine
I own an ‘06 650 Vstrom. It is definitely not a dirt bike. IMHO, It’s off-road limitations are due more to pavement oriented weight distribution (more firward than a true dirt bike chassis) and steeper steering head and more road focused offset/trail. What gives the bike such lovely manners on pavement makes it want to tuck of loose gravel. If you come upon loose conditions, whatever you do, don’t chop (close) the throttle. It’ll just put even more weight on the already overloaded (for dirt) ft wheel. Best approach is to move as far back as possible and proceed at a slower (but not too slow) and always try to maintain momentum. I don’t find the bike particularly fun on loose or sandy conditions. Whereas the same conditions on a DR 650 will leave you smiling. And that’s the thing, a 650 Vstrom is NOT a dirt bike.
Hello Gustaf! How are you doing? My first adventure bike was the v strom 650, much thanks to your awesome videos.
Something I never though about until I traveled South was that at the equator you only get 12 hours of sunlight. Good thing. That tropical sun is fierce. Safe journey to you!!
Toughest servant out there. V-💪
Sounds like ZF box
The 650 with TKC80s is phenominal offroad, I would go so far as to say, its better than my 1200gsa. I have taken the 650 places my GS would bog permanently, the only gripe is the lack of "tractor factor" in slow technical stuff
Tractor factor you mean torgue on a slow speed?
Love my -Vstrom but it certainly is no good for off-road or even dirt-road bike.
In V storm 650 we trust 🙏😊😊. Awesome 👌 👏 👍 safe riding 🙏 and thanks for sharing 👍
Were you in Belize. Thought I recognized some land marks like the Sleeping Giant. Definitely recognized Flores Peten Guatemala.
Since you are so tall: What kind of windshield setup do you use? I myself am about 1,93 m and have a really hard time, since every shield I ever tried on any bike just kept blowing the wind directly in my face.
Did your bike often bottom out on the topes? That’s one concern I have about taking my V-Strom to Latin America.
Benefits of being a 6'9" giant... can effortlessly scoot a full size ADV bike across the ground like it's a 50cc scooter to avoid knocking a neighbouring bikes mirrors. Downsides... catch all the bugs with your helmet or face.
Gustaf may I ask if your suspension mods have held up? How did it improve your under sump guard ground clearance with yourself and luggage? I recall your rear sag was reduced 50mm. Was it the new riding situation of two up that made you change from soft back to hard paniers? Or was it weight reduction? To date have you had any issues finding maintenance or replacement parts throughout South America? Thank you in advance if you have a chance to respond, I'm gearing up to get my Strom ready for some big kilometres and off road too.
In 2018 I rode my V Strom 2 up around the world. 43,000 miles and no reliability issues
One reaps the Benefits of up graded suspension every time the bike rolls over a bump, jump, hole, etc… 1 ride =‘s how many bumps, jumps, holes, etc…?
No tall seat?
🌞🌞🌞✌️
Great experience sir I shall Own it soon Please Guide me. 800de is there now' Which one to buy?
Price difference is about 2 thousands Euro and the new untested engine. The decision is obvious 650XT
Tjenare! Har nu slutat att köra eller är ni on tour nånstans?
Dude! Thanks for this info. I plan to do this trip this year andd wish to leave the bike in C.R. Awesome !
I fail to comprehend how someone so tall can be comfortable on anything other than the tallest adventure bikes 🤷♂️. But hey, congrats. So glad that you have found a bike for a reasonable price that works for you. I have the 650. 2011 model. Seems tough. No off road manners mind. Front end is a pig. But delightful on some twists. Solid bike indeed
Stunning terrain ! Bravo!
110% TRUE.
Thanks great review
hey mate quick question please...did you lift the bike or not ?? Also, what is your opinion about the Öhlins suspensions ??
It's not lifted, or at least not intentionally. I was advised against lifting it as it changes the rake angle. Öhlins makes great suspension components, i know a few people working there and they are fantastic people (Öhlins is Swedish). But do i think Öhlins is worth double the money of the TFX shocks i have? For me and my use case I'm not sure, I'm not skilled enough and ride extreme enough to notice the difference. I'm very happy with my TFX shock and can't see the benefit for international overland travel by going with a Öhlins shock.
Quick question I'm planning to do same trip with ninja 650 it's all asphalt highway 1 or there are parts like in the video?
Hello Gustaf. So glad you, your girlfriend and the mighty Vstrom continue your journey. Beautiful scenery in Costa Rica. The 650 must be pretty tough to carry all the kit and a big guy like yourself. I had a standard '17 DL 650 which I traded in on a Z900RS. Missed the DL so much, I just bought a '22 650 Adventure. Next year or so, they will discontinue this Vtwin. Thought I'd get anther before they do. Have fun and take care of yourselves. Vaya con dios.
What is your inseam? I'm not near as tall as you (6'1") but I have a 34 inch inseam and my legs feel too long on most motorcycles I've tested so far (I'm a new rider).
I have 36” inseam. With the peg lowering I feel comfortable, but I’m also rather flexible. Try out a V-Strom, if you like it you can get other pegs and taller seat.
I had some cheap soft bags I bought from Amazon on my old Yamaha Diversion (year 1998), when I changed motorcycle to a Vstrom 650 XL three weeks ago I wanted to carry those (actually reliable) bags, but after 1000km the right one burned due to the exhaust. I wonder if it's a matter of cheap material or if you have a trick to avoid that?
Get a heat shield mounted on the exhaust. I have a small heat shield mounted that creates a air-gap between the exhaust and the bag. Even expensive bags does melt.
The background music is a little to loud and the drums make it impossible to hear what you say. Travel safely!
